Osteopathy: the healing touch.

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. At Atlas we treat each patient as an individual regardless of any age and condition, from pregnant women to sports people.

Utilising a variety of techniques, we work with your body to help encourage the healing process. Some of the common complaints that patients consult us for include back and neck pain, sciatica, headaches caused by tension in the neck muscles, joint aches and pain (including frozen shoulder and tennis elbow), pain from arthritis and sports injuries.

How does Osteopathy work?

It works with the structure and function of the body, based on the principle of the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning properly.

Techniques range from gentle stretching techniques to deeper soft tissue work and gentle joint mobilisation through to direct joint manipulation. The treatment style will vary depending on your individual needs, with supplementary advice given to patients on lifestyle, exercise, ergonomics and dietary issues.

Osteopathy can help with the assessment and treatment of people of any age from the elderly to the newborn and from pregnant women to sports people. The British Medical Associations guidance for general practitioners states that doctors can safely refer patients to osteopaths.

Who can benefit?

Young People through to Elderly Ones

Some soft tissue treatment may cause discomfort during treatment. The osteopath will tell you what to expect, and will want you to let them know if you are in pain. You may feel a little stiff or sore after treatment. This is a normal, healthy response to the treatment.

Manual Workers and Office Professionals

Osteopathy is suitable for workers ranging from manual workers with the physical stress caused from lifting, repetitive strain and postural problems caused from work and driving, through to the office worker facing problems from poor posture sat at a desk or in front of a computer.

Sportspersons and Athletes

Osteopathy is suitable for a wide range of sporting injuries and rehabilitation, and this is the specialty of the Clinics we run. Hashim has completed a degree in Sports Medicine, Exercise and Rehabilitation from UCL (London). Osteopathy can help those from the casual weekend runner through to the elite athlete.

Sports Medicine, as the name would suggest, is the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of sporting injuries. This can be incorporated into osteopathic treatment, and tailored to each individual athlete’s needs, with adjuncts such as supportive strapping and kinesio taping.

With specialists in acupuncture and nutrition, Atlas Osteopathy can help on a variety of different levels to get you back to feeling your best.
